SARS coronavirus-2 was first identified in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and was declared a pandemic disease by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020. The high incidence of Covid-19 disease and the resulting mortality due to rapid genetic changes in the virus have led researchers to suggest different treatment options. There are still many questions about the pathogenesis and role of proteins in this virus. The answers to these questions can be very effective in the design and development of effective antiviral drugs as well as vaccines to prevent the disease. In this review article, SARS coronavirus-2 is first examined molecularly. Then, the latest research studies on effective treatments against COVID-19 disease are mentioned and, in each case, the mechanism of action of the potential drugs is explained.
